Superbike: Pata Yamaha wins double podium

Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team attains second and third in Buriram, Thailand

The Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team – for which Boggi Milano supplies apparel for the team’s staff and the riders Alex Lowes and Michael van der Mark – scored its first podiums of the season with a second and third place during the second round of the 2018 FIM World Superbike Championship, held on Sunday 25 March. It was an exciting race in hot and humid conditions in Buriram, Thailand. Michael and Alex swapped places at the head of the pack for the opening laps, before van der Mark made a break and pulled ahead on lap 3. He continued to lead until lap 8 when Chaz Davies moved up into first place. Michael continued to fight for victory and for most of the race was right on Davis’ back wheel. Unable to pass, he crossed the line in second place, 2.185 seconds behind. British rider Alex Lowes finished just 1.699 seconds behind van der Mark, for a brilliant third place. Alex is now fifth in the championship standings with 48 points, just 21 points behind the leader and three ahead of his teammate Michael.

“When the race is as close as that and everyone is close together and we are battling, I really, really, enjoy it,” said Alex, “and that is obviously the main thing. If you are having fun and everyone is enjoying watching it, I think it is fantastic.”

“Second place after the results from yesterday and at Phillip Island was really positive!” said Michael. “I was riding at the limit but the limit today was a lot further than yesterday so it was a big improvement from Race 1. Aragón is a completely different track so it will be interesting to see how the R1 goes there but after the first two races of the season, I am really happy.”

Paul Denning, Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team Principal, provided his own analysis of the race. “We hoped that starting from the first and second rows would help today and that combined with an excellent first few laps by both Michael and Alex certainly contributed to a fantastic double-podium result for the team! It looks like the championship is going to be less predictable and more interesting this year and what’s positive from Yamaha’s point of view is that we still feel there is more potential to unlock. It has been a very solid start to the season.”

The next races will be held in Aragón, Spain, on the weekend 13-15 April. All best wishes to Alex Lowes, Michael van der Mark, Paul Denning and the entire Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team from everyone here at Boggi Milano!
