Floral print motifs feature strongly in Boggi Milano’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection. They are one of the season’s most significant menswear trends, and they possibly reflect a growing sensitivity towards the natural world in our contemporary society. Flowers were generally restricted to menswear garments such as Hawaiian shirts – as in Tom Selleck’s interpretation in Magnum PI – but they have now acquired a more widespread acceptance, particularly in their current guise often featuring small flower motifs on a dark background.
An exclusive print motif
A good way of combining florals into your look is to create a contrast, for example a floral-print shirt over a white T-shirt and plain navy blue swim shorts, perfect for summer excursions to the beach. A floral polo shirt is great over blue Bermuda shorts or even light, long summery trousers in dark blue. In general, the larger the flowers, the more powerful the fashion statement. Boggi Milano’s floral print shirts are made in different fabrics, cotton-linen or viscose, and three are in textiles made exclusively for us by Cotonificio Albini, an Italian mill founded in 1876 and now famous for its very high quality production. Our exclusive print motif, with navy background and coloured flowers, features on a cotton-linen short-sleeved casual shirt (BO19P076501) with bowling collar.
Quick-drying viscose shirt
Another interesting product is the long-sleeved shirt (BO19P095301) in viscose by Italian mill Achille Pinto, with a classic Hawaiian print motif featuring palms and flowers. Viscose is a semi-synthetic fibre made from regenerated cellulose, and it has a soft, silky texture. Its durability, non-creasing and quick-drying characteristics make it ideal for summer garments for poolside or seaside.
Floral prints have long been part of menswear in details such as pocket squares and ties. This season, Boggi Milano’s exclusive floral print patterns have been used to add notes of contrast on other products, such as the yokes of a series of plain polo shirts, and on the interior pockets of canvas bags. This provides a way of creating a look with a theme that visually links several items together.
